This interesting plant gets it’s common name from the unique look of scales on the leaves. This fern is native to tropical, humid and shady locations. They can grow to be very tall, up to 5 ft., but can be trimmed and kept under control in enclosures. They thrive in vivariums, paludariums and terrariums.
These ferns have shallow roots and do not need to be planted deeply. Their care is relatively easy. They like rich, moist soil, but shouldn’t stay constantly wet, as the roots will rot. Soil can range from neutral to acidic (PH of 6.0-8.5) and ideal temps are 65 to 75 degrees.
Established plant in a 2.5 inch pot.
